Dit is DE cd die je NIET
hoeft (zelfs wil - ) te hebben. Wat mij betreft is
dat de eerste keer in Zappa's historie. Kijk
naar de tijden hieronder; alleen de allerlaatste track is
MUZIEK! De rest is geklets. Wie schreef er ooit op zijn lp's
"Music is the best?" Oeps, effe vergeten... Gail! Ik vind
het een wanprodukt, een gedrocht, een monster. Nu was Zappa
daar dol op, zeker die in de B-categorie, maar... hij had
smaak. Dat kan van deze uitgave niet gezegd worden. Ja,
natuurlijk is het leuk, geinig, superleuk en nog geiniger om
FZ zijn gevatte mening te horen weergeven. Hilariteit volop
in de rechtszaal. Ja, het is goed dat er vrijheid van
meningsuiting is, maar maak er dan een leuk produkt omheen.
Dat hebben ze iets te letterlijk opgevat; de verpakking en
het boekje zijn namelijk het best. Dat ik dat schrijf zegt
al genoeg. Dat de cd nog steeds niet op de voorpagina van
zappa.com staat is voor mij ook een teken aan den wand.
Geloven ze er zelf wel in? Ik heb zo mijn twijfels. De
verjaardag van deze specifieke Zappa-actie zou wel anders
gevierd mogen worden. Goed dat hij een statue heeft in
Baltimore. Baltimore forever! Yeah! Echter, met The Mothers
of Prevention heeft Zappa al een uitstekende cd over dit
thema geleverd. Chop'm all up! Goed motto! Dat, precies dat
is de essentie in 's mans werk en uitgerekend dat zijn de
huidige producenten totaal vergeten. Congress etc. is daarom
langdradig, saai, teveel hetzelfde, teveel blahblahblah. Ik
luister er al niet eens meer met aandacht naar. Een keer,
toen was het wel aardig. Maar een tweede keer? Dacht het
niet! De collectie is nog steeds compleet, maar de twijfel
knaagt en dat voelt aan als kiespijn. Ik denk dat er betere
manieren zijn om de vrijheid van meningsuiting te verkopen.
Misschien is het wel bedoeld als ontwikkelingshulp. De
familie kan de resterende voorraad van deze cd namelijk heel
goed weggeven in het nieuwe ontwikkelingsland Nederland,
want wij hebben die vrijheid binnenkort hard nodig. Ideetje
Mark? |

Become Annual 'Frank Zappa Day' in Baltimore
BALTIMORE - Details of events were announced
today for the unveiling of a sculpture of Frank
Zappa and celebration honoring the composer for the
legacy of his music and his commitment to the First
Amendment. The sculpture is a replica of the
original Frank Zappa bust by Konstantinas Bogdanas
that was commissioned by authors of the idea, fans
Saulius Pauk?tys, Saulius Pilinkus and Arturas
Baublys and installed in the Lithuanian capital of
Vilnius in 1995. September 19, 2010 marks the 25th
anniversary of Zappa's testimony on Capitol Hill and
at Annapolis against the censorship of free
expression by artists. In commemoration of this
event, Zappa Records is preparing to release
'Congress Shall Make No Law,' a CD containing Frank
Zappa's testimony. As part of the celebrations, the
Mayor's office will issue a proclamation moving
annual 'Frank Zappa Day' to September 19th in
Baltimore.
Frank Zappa's son Dweezil Zappa
will headline a special concert with his Grammy
Award-winning band, ZAPPA PLAYS ZAPPA. The stretch
of Eastern Avenue between Conkling and Eaton Streets
in the heart of the Highlandtown Arts and
Entertainment District will be marked 'Frank Zappa
Way' with a ceremonial street sign to be unveiled
for the dedication. The events, including the
outdoor dedication and concerts, are open to the
public at no charge..."
